Dog Trainer With A Lifetime of Experience
Tim has lived much of his life surrounded by dogs, as he bred and trained Labrador Retrievers for several years, Owning as many as 15 dogs at one time, he understands the “pack” mentality. As a close observer of dogs, he has gained the ability to read their signs as well as how they communicate. Tim has owned and trained several different breeds ranging from Toy Poodles to the Boerboel Mastiff, which is the breed of his current dog, Bruno.
Training A Boerboel Mastiff
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Boerboel Mastiff, they are a South African Mastiff. Boerboel means “Farmer’s Dog” in Dutch (Afrikaans). They were bred to protect cattle and property from leopards, lions, and poachers. The breed is fierce, loyal, intelligent, stubborn, and highly protective. Stubborn would be an understatement! Training Bruno was an experience Tim will never forget. If you research the breed, one of the first things you see is they are working dogs, not dog park dogs.
However, through extensive socialization and training, Bruno is a regular at the local dog park, who gets along with other dogs. He is a massive dog weighing 180 lbs and as you can see from the picture, one of his best friends is an 8 lb. Miniature Rottweiler. This just goes to show what proper training and hard work can accomplish.
